Yes, we put "hire in-house" in the table. Past ~25 engineers it genuinely beats us — and part of the retainer's job is getting you there with infrastructure a new hire can pick up in a week.

What a retainer month looks like

An illustrative month, so you know what $2,900 buys. Your request queue sets the actual agenda — this is the shape, not a script.

  • Week 1Alert cleanup: pages down ~70%, every remaining page actionable · CI build 14 min → 6 min
  • Week 2Staging environment rebuilt as a Terraform module · RDS right-sized, −$640/mo
  • Week 3Kubernetes upgraded two versions, zero downtime · SOC 2 evidence checks green in Vanta
  • Week 4Monthly cost review with dollar numbers · backup restore tested · docs updated

+ a written progress update in your inbox every Friday, four Fridays a month.

Pricing questions

Straight answers

Why do you publish your prices?

Because you shouldn't need three sales calls to learn a number. Most agencies hide pricing; we'd rather you arrive knowing whether we fit your budget. The price on this page is the price in the proposal.

How does the audit guarantee work?

Simple: if the audit doesn't identify at least $10,000/year in combined savings and quantified risks, you don't pay. We can offer this because startup cloud accounts almost always have that money hiding in plain sight — over-provisioned instances, unused capacity, missing reserved-instance coverage, and risky single points of failure are near-universal.

Does the SOC 2 package get us SOC 2 certified?

The certificate itself comes from your auditor — nobody can sell you that directly, and you should be suspicious of anyone who claims to. What we deliver is the infrastructure side passing: access controls, logging, encryption, backups, and disaster recovery implemented and wired into Vanta or Drata so the checks go green and the evidence collects itself. Policies, HR controls, and the audit engagement are yours (your compliance platform handles most of it); the infrastructure work is the deep technical part, and that's what you're buying.

How does the retainer's request queue work?

You add requests to a shared board — anything infrastructure: a pipeline fix, a scaling problem, a cost review, a new environment. We work them one at a time, most are done in 2–3 days, and you get a written progress update every Friday. One active request keeps the price flat and honest; if you consistently need more parallel work than that, you've outgrown the retainer and we'll tell you so.

What's the difference between the free mini-audit and the $1,900 audit?

The free mini-audit is a short review: you answer a few questions, we look at what you share, and you get a brief email with our top observations. The $1,900 audit is a full week of hands-on, read-only review of your actual infrastructure with a severity-ranked report and a walkthrough call. The free one tells you if there's a problem; the paid one tells you exactly what to do about it.

Can I really cancel the retainer anytime?

Yes — no notice period beyond the current month. Everything lives in your repos and accounts, so leaving is easy by design.

What's not included?

We don't offer a 24/7 on-call team — we're a solo senior practice and we're honest about that. If you need round-the-clock staffed on-call, we'll help you design it and recommend providers, but we won't pretend to be one.

Do you do custom projects?

Yes — migrations, Kubernetes builds, and cost-optimization sprints are all common. Every custom project gets a fixed price and timeline in writing before we start.

Ready to stop worrying about your infrastructure?

A 15-minute call is enough to tell you exactly what we'd do and what it costs. No pitch deck, no pressure.
