Azure DevOps consulting for startups

We build and run production Azure infrastructure: Container Apps and AKS, Azure SQL and Postgres Flexible Server, landing-zone architecture, CI/CD, and cost control — all as Terraform in your own subscriptions. Azure is where startups selling into Microsoft-centric enterprises usually need to be; we make it operable by a small team.

Scope

What our Azure consulting covers

  • Subscription and landing-zone architecture: management groups, Entra ID, RBAC, policy
  • Azure Container Apps for most services; AKS when Kubernetes is genuinely required
  • Azure Database for PostgreSQL / Azure SQL with HA, backups, and tested restores
  • Azure cost optimization: reservations, right-sizing, storage tiering, dev/test subscriptions
  • SOC 2-ready Azure: activity logs, encryption, Defender baselines, evidence into Vanta/Drata

System design

How we scale systems on Azure

  1. 1

Container Apps first: KEDA-based autoscaling (HTTP, queue depth, cron) without owning an AKS control plane

  2. 2

AKS with node auto-provisioning when you outgrow Container Apps — system/user node pool separation, PDBs, and surge upgrades from day one

  3. 3

Postgres Flexible Server with HA + read replicas; Service Bus queues absorb spikes before they hit the database

  4. 4

Front Door + CDN moves static and cacheable traffic off compute entirely — often the cheapest scaling lever on Azure

In practice

What a typical engagement looks like

A B2B startup closing its first enterprise deal moves from a shared App Service plan to Container Apps with Postgres Flexible Server HA, the subscription gets a proper landing zone with Entra ID and policy, and SOC 2 evidence wires into Drata — audit-ready in four weeks with a bill ~20% lower than before.

Illustrative engagement — representative of typical work at typical scale, not a specific client. See a full sample audit deliverable here.

Azure work is covered by the Fractional DevOps retainer ($2,900/mo) and scoped fixed-price projects — start with the guaranteed $1,900 audit if you want findings before commitments.

Questions

Azure, straight answers

AKS or Azure Container Apps?

Container Apps for most startups: it's Kubernetes-powered underneath (KEDA, Dapr) without the cluster-operations tax, and it scales on HTTP traffic or queue depth out of the box. Choose AKS when you need raw Kubernetes APIs, custom controllers, or workloads Container Apps can't express. We run both and will say plainly which your roadmap needs.

Why do enterprises push us toward Azure?

Because their identity, procurement, and security review all live in Microsoft-land — being on Azure with Entra ID SSO shortens their vendor review. If enterprise deals are your pipeline, meeting them on Azure is often worth more than any technical preference.
